Draft, not yet reviewed by a lawyer. This page is written in plain English from Smelter’s research and is waiting for a lawyer’s review. Anything marked “To confirm” is still being decided.
Automated decisions and AI use
Last updated 21 October 2026
Smelter uses AI to draft and to check. A person at Campsite Studios reviews every piece of work before it reaches you, and that review is recorded on the work’s sheet.
Who you’re dealing with
Smelter is run by Campsite Studios, ABN 76 741 354 178, in Australia. To confirm: the legal name of the entity that holds this ABN Write to us at hello.campsitestudio@gmail.com.
Where AI is used
- Marketing: AI drafts posts, profile updates and review replies, and runs the first rule check. A person reviews every item, and you approve anything that goes out under your name.
- IT: automated checks read your security settings each night. Changes to your systems are made by a person or by rules you approved.
- HR: Minishift’s scheduler builds roster drafts inside the limits you set. A person reviews and publishes them. No decision about a staff member’s pay, hiring or employment is made by software.
Automated decisions
From 10 December 2026, the Privacy Act 1988 requires a privacy policy to say when a computer program makes, or does much of the work of making, a decision that could significantly affect a person’s rights or interests, and what personal information it uses. Smelter makes no such decision by software alone. This table lists each place software is involved.
| Where | What software does | Who decides | Information it uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketing posts and review replies | AI drafts them and runs the first rule check against Ahpra, TGA, consumer law and Spam Act rules. | A person at Campsite Studios reviews every item. You approve anything published under your name. | Your practice’s details, the brief you give, and reviews you ask us to reply to. |
| IT security checks | Automated checks read your security settings each night. | A person makes changes to your systems, or a rule you approved does. | Account and device settings in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. |
| Locking out a leaver | When you record a departure in Minishift, IT locks that person out of email and files. | You do, by recording the departure. The software carries it out and logs the time. | The person’s name, accounts and leaving date. |
| Rosters | Minishift’s scheduler drafts the roster inside the hour limits and rest breaks you set. | A person reviews and publishes it. | Staff availability, leave, hours and pay settings. |
| Recruitment | Software checks job ad wording and may sort applications against the criteria you set. | A person reviews every application, and you decide who is interviewed and hired. To confirm: exactly what the screening does | What candidates send with their application. |
| Sign-in links and public forms | Limits how many sign-in links or sign-ups come from one connection. | Nobody: it only asks you to wait before trying again. | A keyed hash of the connection’s internet address, not the address. |
Your data and AI models
Client data isn’t used to train AI models. Each AI provider, what it sees and where it’s located will be listed here before Smelter opens. To confirm: the AI providers
Holding us to it
Australia has no AI-specific law yet, but the Australian Consumer Law still applies to what we say about AI. “AI-assisted, every piece reviewed by a person” has to be true, so each sheet records who reviewed the work and when.
