Cancelling and refunds
Last updated 21 October 2026
How to cancel one department or everything, what you get back, and what happens to your data.
Who you’re dealing with
Smelter is run by Campsite Studios, ABN 76 741 354 178, in Australia. To confirm: the legal name of the entity that holds this ABN Write to us at hello.campsitestudio@gmail.com.
Cancel online
The account’s owner can cancel any department, or everything, online from the Billing page, at any time. It takes no more steps than buying did, and you don’t need to call or email anyone. We email you a confirmation. The department stops at the end of the month you’ve paid for.
Can’t sign in? Email hello.campsitestudio@gmail.com from the address on the account and we’ll cancel it for you.
Why it works this way
The Competition and Consumer Amendment (Unfair Trading Practices) Act 2026 passed on 2 July 2026. From 1 July 2027, a subscription sold to a consumer or a small business must be as easy to cancel as it was to start: if you signed up online, you must be able to cancel online, with only the steps that are reasonably needed, and the key terms must be shown where you sign up. Smelter’s monthly plans are covered from that date, including plans that started earlier. Smelter already works this way.
The 20-day refund
Cancel a department within 20 days of starting it and we refund its first month in full.
The 20 days start on the day the department starts. The refund goes back to the card or account you paid with. To confirm: whether the one-off IT setup fee is refunded too
After 20 days, cancelling stops the department at the end of the month you’ve paid for, unless the Australian Consumer Law gives you a further remedy.
The bundle discount after a cancellation
Cancel one department from a bundle and the discount is worked out again from your next bill, on the departments still running: three become two at 10% off, and a single department is full price. Nothing you’ve already paid is taken back, and there are no exit fees. The cancel step shows your new monthly price before you confirm.
What happens to your data
- Cancel one department: its past reports and files stay in your portal while your account is open.
- Cancel everything: you have 90 days to export every deliverable, report, log and invoice from the portal. After 90 days we delete your account’s data and files, and email you to confirm it’s done.
- We keep invoices and payment records as long as tax law requires, generally five years.
- Your Google, Meta and Microsoft accounts were always in your name, so they stay with you. Remove Smelter’s access to them when you’re ready.
- As the employer, you must keep employee records for seven years under the Fair Work Act 2009. Export your HR records from Minishift before the 90 days end.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
Whatever this page says, the consumer guarantees still apply, and they can’t be excluded. If a service wasn’t provided with due care and skill, or didn’t do what we said it would, you may be entitled to have it fixed, supplied again or refunded.
No card surcharge
Card surcharges are banned from 1 October 2026. Smelter adds no surcharge for paying by card, and doesn’t take one out of a refund.
